Title: (Dis)Integration og (Mis)Dannelse i M.A. Goldschmidts En Jøde
Authors: Spies, Morten C.R.
Advisor: Richard, Anne B
Issue Date: Jan-2005
Abstract: This thesis consist of an analysis of the acclaimed Danish-Jewish writer M.A. Goldschmidts novel Jacob Bendixen – a Danish Jew. The novel was published in 1845 and in this thesis it is read as a Bildungsroman. Furthermore I tend to discuss the way the main character Jacob faces certain difficulties bridging between Danish and Jewish traditions, cultural habits and religious beliefs. Additionally I discuss aspects of nationalism, integration and the construction of identity as a subject placed in-between different groups. The discussion of matters such as nationalism, integration and identity is based on a combined aesthetic and historic perspective based on theorists Svend Erik Larsens “Om synsvinkel, fortæller og udsigelse”, Keld Zeruneith “Dannelsesromanens metode” and Benedict Andersons “Imagined Communities”.
