| Abstract: | Denne opgave behandler, hvordan en større international sportsbegivenhed kan præge et lands fællesskabsfølelse, og fungere som politisk virkemiddel. Det undersøges, hvordan det er teoretisk muligt at skabe en fællesskabsfølelse i en nation, samt hvordan denne blev italesat under VM i Sydafrika 2010. Dette gøres ved hjælp af teorier af Billig, Anderson, Wallerstein og Fairclough, foruden et interview med en lektor i Afrikastudier. Det påvises, at det er teoretisk muligt for en sportsbegivenhed at styrke fællesskabsfølelsen i et land, samt at der fra officiel side er skabt en fællesskabsdiskurs under VM-slutrunden. I projektrapportens endelige konklusion, konkluderes det, at når en større international sportsbegivenhed præger et lands fællesskabsfølelse, bliver mere konventionelle politiske tiltag lettere at gennemføre, og sportsbegivenheden kommer derfor til at fungere som et politisk virkemiddel. This paper examines how a large international sports event can influence the feeling of community within a nation and hereby function as a political mechanism. It is examined how it is theoretically possible to create a feeling of community within a nation and how this was discursively constructed during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. This is demonstrated through theories by Billig, Anderson, Wallerstein and Fairclough. Futhermore we use an interview with a lecturer in Africa studies. It is shown that it is theoretically possible for a sports event to strengthen the national feeling of community. In addition, it is shown that there was a discursively constructed feeling of community during the World Cup in South Africa. Finally, it is concluded that when a large international sports event influence on the national feeling of community, it becomes easier to carry out more conventional political initiatives and therefore the sports event functions as a political mechanism. |
